Bumblebee: Still Palm addicted…

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

Hmm… Every time I get the chance to use my Palm Tungsten C, I still feel like it gets the job done. No fuss, though no frills. I think I still like it a lot. This post is made using it too!

bumblebee: gmail and imap…

Friday, October 26th, 2007

Just  a heads-up for those who haven't yet heard: Google Mail will start supporting IMAP soon, on top of POP3. (IMAP and POP3 are different ways you can retrieve your Google Mail using a standard email client such as Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.).

The problem with POP3 support that has been around for sometime now, is that Google will allow you to download the messages only ONCE, after which future downloads from any computers or devices will only retrieve newer messages. This means that if I checked it using my Palm or Windows Mobile, I will not be able to download the same message on my laptop into Thunderbird, even though it is still in Gmail, and I can still get the message when I use a browser.

So… IMAP support will be a great addition for many of us. Just note that not all accounts have this feature yet. It is coming out to everyone soon though. Check http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?ctx=gmail&hl=en&answer=75725 for more info!

bumblebee: Heard on the ward…

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

I was asked to clerk a patient on my ward recently. The patient was an elderly woman who came in with profuse bleeding from her anus (PR bleeding) for investigation. While taking the history, I noticed that she could not remember the events that just occurred a day ago. Just then, the patient from the next bed came over. I patiently brought that patient back to her bed, and asked for some privacy as I spoke to another patient. Once I got back to the patient with the PR bleed, she soon followed me…

At this, my patient smilingly told me: She cannot remember. I might be old and sick, but at least I've still got my mind; gesturing at her own head.

Later that day, after some calls to the patient's GP, I found that she only remembered her colonoscopies many years ago, but not the one just two years back where they found haemorrhoids and rectal prolapse. Obviously, she never told me about those as she couldn't remember them…

Talk about pot calling the kettle black? :P
