Bumblebee: Autopatcher!

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Ok. So, Microsoft is irritating you with their genuine advantage program. Either that, or like me, Windows updates don't seem to come immediately, sometimes, up to one month after they are available even thouh you own a legit Windows. Or, like me also, you fix computers (as a hobby in my case).

I think, autopatcher is the one of the greatest free stuff for any Microsoft Windows user. Download the latest at: http://www.autopatcher.com and install it. It will patch your Vista, or XP SP2 system to the latest with goodies, tweaks and stuff. You don't even need WGA (Windows Genuine Advantage) to have the latest MS updates! And, you can use it on as many computers as you like!

Bumblebee: Uluru

Monday, August 13th, 2007

Well, we decided to drop by Uluru (Ayer's Rock) this weekend. Once again, our trusty 1991 Holden Nova/Toyota Corolla took us to all the places with BigGray acting as our GPS device.

Hotel rooms at Uluru costs about AUD300-400. So, we decided to room at Curtin Springs, which was 99km away for AUD60 instead. The room here was really 'budget'. The shower and toilet are shared, and the room barely fit a queen size bed. It was comfortable nonetheless and we had a good sleep.

On the first day, after check-in at Curtin Springs, we visited Uluru and watched the sunset. Colafish felt cheated that the supposed “colour changes” of the big rock is merely the normal changes with a setting sun. It had a mystical feel, but she was expecting it to change to green or polka dotted… :)
The second day, we woke up at 530am to catch sunrise at 7:24am according to the ranger… We reached the sunrise viewing area at 7:15am. Colafish remarked that the sky was becoming very bright about 20 minutes before that, and was so we caught sunrise, but the sky was already bright and so we missed the morning colour changes of Uluru. I guess, we have learnt the lesson and will go about 45 minutes before the sunrise time…

We also visited Kata Tjuta… I felt that Kata Tjuta was actually more interesting than Uluru.

We are now safely back in Alice Springs. We encountered a scampering critter (a small wallaby? A rabbit? A bandicoot?), two kangaroos (right in the middle of the road), and an emu (ran right across the road in front of us!) on our way back. Thank God we are safe now. I guess it was a reasonably good trip…

p/s colafish : we bought 2 picnic chairs, each costing AUD 11.90, and made the sunset experience a luxury!:P

Bumblebee: Updates from Alice Springs…

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Well, we drove about 880km from home to Coober Pedy, stayed overnight, and then another 688km from Coober Pedy to Alice Springs.

We still have limited internet access, and we only have our mobile phones. This blog entry was posted via BigGray (my PocketPC phone).

The photos below show the setup in the car on the way here. We got a generic attachment that goes on to the windscreen and BigGray is there providing GPS directions. Everything went well until we left Coober Pedy. TomTom 6 decided to go AWOL, leaving us to travel the straight road without directions. It's working now, but with a slightly older version of the software (same, updated maps though). Oh well… Still helps us find our way in Alice Springs…

The other two photos show our accommodation at Coober Pedy. The accommodation was relatively cheap… Only AUD98 for two. Some others run around AUD200+, and some others are above-ground. We stayed at the Underground Motel. It is run by a Swiss woman all by herself! Amazingly clean, nice and unique.

Okay… More later. We are still settling in at Alice Springs. Life has been quite good overall. Hospital staff has been kind to me, and the place has been good to colafish. We got free gym membership here, and just visited the place today. The stuff is antique, but hey… It's free!

Hope everyone else is doing well!

JC the Matchmaker : Missing U guys!

Wednesday, August 1st, 2007

Hi guys,

Took me a good half hour, trolling thru your postings…very interesting… keep it up, like the pics esp. Tien seem to have a talent for poetry and rhymes…. Steph ? for games…

The stockmart crashed heavily yesterday and today.. bought Genting at a low of RM8.00 yesterday, went down to RM7.80 today!  Now waiting for the rebound , hopefully in a few days time . But this time round it might just be the dreaded bear mart  breaking out on Asia. On the balance I think I made 20K these past fews months, hopefully I can preserve it from attrition.

I will heading down Spore office for a company meeting Aug 15 to 17th. Hope to drop in on Sim Lim towers check Nokia  E90 prices. Its retailing at Low Yat RM3,900! , onlines is only US$813 ( about RM2,750 ) what a rip off these lowyat buggers.

So good to hear from both of you just now, I was having mental pics of you both living under the sand dunes. .. smoke drifting out of tall chimneys with the occassional chimney knockdowns by drunk drivers .
Hope you guys having the times of your live!

Waiting for more pics/news on Al Springs.

Big cat!
