Well, we decided to drop by Uluru (Ayer's Rock) this weekend. Once again, our trusty 1991 Holden Nova/Toyota Corolla took us to all the places with BigGray acting as our GPS device.
Hotel rooms at Uluru costs about AUD300-400. So, we decided to room at Curtin Springs, which was 99km away for AUD60 instead. The room here was really 'budget'. The shower and toilet are shared, and the room barely fit a queen size bed. It was comfortable nonetheless and we had a good sleep.
On the first day, after check-in at Curtin Springs, we visited Uluru and watched the sunset. Colafish felt cheated that the supposed “colour changes” of the big rock is merely the normal changes with a setting sun. It had a mystical feel, but she was expecting it to change to green or polka dotted…
The second day, we woke up at 530am to catch sunrise at 7:24am according to the ranger… We reached the sunrise viewing area at 7:15am. Colafish remarked that the sky was becoming very bright about 20 minutes before that, and was so we caught sunrise, but the sky was already bright and so we missed the morning colour changes of Uluru. I guess, we have learnt the lesson and will go about 45 minutes before the sunrise time…
We also visited Kata Tjuta… I felt that Kata Tjuta was actually more interesting than Uluru.
We are now safely back in Alice Springs. We encountered a scampering critter (a small wallaby? A rabbit? A bandicoot?), two kangaroos (right in the middle of the road), and an emu (ran right across the road in front of us!) on our way back. Thank God we are safe now. I guess it was a reasonably good trip…
p/s colafish : we bought 2 picnic chairs, each costing AUD 11.90, and made the sunset experience a luxury!:P
