bumblebee: Video games for surgeons!

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Wah! Surgeons wannabes… time to get a spanking new computer for all the cool games! Here's the latest report about how playing computer games make a surgeon better… and the statistics are amazing! The findings of the study, released by the Beth Israel Medical Center, showed that doctors who played at least three hours of video games each week made almost 37% fewer mistakes and were 27% faster than their non-video game-playing counterparts.

Darling colafish, what do you think? Maybe I should play more computer games and study less? *evil grin*

bumblebee: E-blankies

Friday, May 26th, 2006

After one night with an electric blanket, I'm now a staunch believer in it… They are rather cheap (AUD25 for a single bed at BigW, AUD50 for a queen size if you get the deal at BigW… most other retail chains go up to AUD200 for branded stuff!) Best of all, they consume only 50W (compare that to 2000W with my ceramic heater), saving energy, and actually keeping me warmer in bed than with the fan heaters.

Weather in Australia has been getting a tad chilly, especially at night. In all previous years, I have electric bills running in the $300+ for the winter quarter (3 months), which is rather high. Most of this was for heating.

Houses in South Australia/Adelaide are poorly insulated. I have been using both an oil-column heater and a ceramic fan heater. The oil-column heater is nearly useless for me, as it isn't able to heat up the room, and the insulation is so poor at my place that the heat escapes before the room warms up. The fan heater has been great, although it consumed lots of power and it is now collecting lots of dust. It doesn't feel as warm as it used to be…

I have had one of the best sleep in recent days last night. I think it's the e-blanket. Nice, warm, toasty. Only problem? Difficult to convince myself to get out of bed :P.

bumblebee: Vaccination against HPV!

Wednesday, May 24th, 2006

HPV (human papilloma virus) is the cause for genital warts and also cervical cancer…

A new vaccine has been developed, and is in the process of being approved in various countries.

Here's a doctor's opinion in NY Times: Click here…

I agree. This is a fantastic news! HPV is the #1 sexually transmitted disease, and simple measures such as using a condom is not protective if you have vulvar lesions…

After receiving this vaccine, perhaps, cost can be saved from having to do annual/biannual PAP smears. I think in the long run, this vaccine might end up saving the government money too. Wonder when Australia will have this approved too?

colafish: Dopod 818pro

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006

After 2 wonderful memorable years with my Zire72 palm, my 1st ever PDA, i finally joined the 'evil' windows mobile camp reluctantly.

Kenny bought me a dopod 818pro after detail searching and surveying done online and in Lowyat Plaze. We need something that can support edge and Sype, with reseasonable specs and price. In the end, we got a good bargain, sacrificing the choice of color. Yes, my dopod, is PINK.

I have a hard time converting to pocket pc or windows mobile. Palm OS is indeed much more user friendly. i could easily put in softwares into my zire72 (including those pirated ones/cracked ones) without any help. I like almost all the basic programs for palm, eg. the note pad, the alarm, the sync..etc. The 'notes' in WM doesn't even have eraser!grrrr. Kenny have to install the 'bugme'program that resembles the palm's notepad to pacify me..:P

Good thing is, Kenny is using pocket pc too. So i have most of the skyscape softwares for medicine running on my windows mobile 5. There's also a program called 'styletap' that can make the softwares that runs on palm OS to run in windows mobile, which means, i can still play 'texttwist' on my dopod!yay!!!

Now, i am getting more and more used to my 'pinky'.I can use it to go online using gprs or wifi, IM, play my favourite games including Super Mario and even watch futurama!I think i can stay with pinky for quite some time, maybe till palm comes out with something that can support skype.

bumblebee: What's important…

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

Sometimes, life gets too busy, doesn't it? And the many pressures of work, studies, results, examinations, promotions, money… all start to crowd our thoughts.

But what exactly is important in life? I often forget myself… I have been stressed in school. I have not been doing well in my studies. In comparison to the past glories, I find myself struggling to even pass exams. So disturbing a thought, when I was earning big bucks before and enjoying myself. People liked me. I had a group of friends. Not now. What did I get myself into?

But then… what really is important in life? I have decided that there are really only two persons/things that truly matter in life. One is God, and the other is my life-partner! My studies, work, money, etc… are only means by which I could enhance these two relationships, not to take-over them.

I love you, my darling! I love you, colafish!

Dearest honey, I love you! Hope you had a safe trip back home! :*

Well, folks… my gf just left for a land quite far away from me, and we will be apart for a few months. :( I'm already suffering withdrawals from this prolonged separation!

Meanwhile, it's back to Windows-land for me. I have been using Linux for 2 years now. Will be sometime before I'm fully set-up again!

Hello!! I am Kenny and that's me in the photo. This must be how I look in my girlfriend's eyes. Am I cute or what?

This will be a joint blog by my gf and I. She will do her introduction shortly. We are madly in love with each other and well, at least pretend to love medicine.

Darling, I need kisses and hugs, STAT!
